  2. Are the Celephais Press copies of these works being released into the public domain? (ie, are copyright free)

I realise the originals have passed into the public domain, but as transcribing them effectively creates a new work based on the earlier material, I thought I should ask

  3. @Mist: Generally the copyright status of CP texts is indicated on the publisher's imprint. Most are public domain. Some are on a Creative Commons "attribution / non-commercial / share-alike" basis, generally where I have taken advantage of someone else's scans / transcriptions.

  4. For example, I've used texts from Gutenberg and the Internet Sacred Text Archive, and page images from archive.org, amongst others, as sources for CP editions. All of these have their own terms of use. Where the entire work of scanning, running through OCR software & proofing the OCR was done by me, I've released the etext to public domain.

  5. The song "Beyond the Tanarian Hills" is essentially a précis or paraphrase of the H.P. Lovecraft story "Celephaïs" (in fact, the album on which the original version appeared, consists in its own words of "HPL paraphrased ad nauseam").
